OGDEN JR MUSTANGS
The Organization
The Ogden Jr Mustangs (OJM) program has been formed for the purpose of operating an ice hockey program for the benefit of children and adults of all ages. The OJM program is committed to developing character, sportsmanship, and physical fitness among its participants. Promoting and encouraging continuous learning and improvement for each participating player is accomplished by providing various levels of competitive leagues, along with sponsoring tournaments, clinics, and camps to advance player development and to attract and retain players. The Weber County Ice Sheet is home to the many programs of the Ogden Jr Mustangs.
The Ogden Jr Mustangs program is a 501(c)3 Non-Profit entity established in 2024. The entity is registered with the Utah Department of Commerce. The program is a sub-Affiliate of the Utah Amateur Hockey Association, a member of USA Hockey, Inc.
The Ogden Jr Mustangs teams are administered by volunteers who have registered with USA Hockey, completed a SafeSport training and have cleared a background screening. Additional training is required of all coaches. Game rules are managed by the USA Hockey Game Rules and officiating is conducted by the Wasatch Ice Hockey Officials Association. Governing oversight is provided by the the Ogden Jr Mustangs Board of Directors. The program is approved by the Utah Amateur Hockey Association, a member of the USA Hockey Rocky Mountain District and sanctioned by USA Hockey, Inc.
The programs are administered by a board of directors and an Advisory Committee representing all ages, abilities and programs of the Ogden Jr Mustangs.
The Ogden Jr Mustangs Programs
Learn to Play Hockey Sessions
Participants as young as 3 years of age are welcome to participate in the Learn to Skate programs hosted by Weber County. After completion of a 6-8 week Learn to Skate program, a participant is welcome to sign up for a Learn to Play Hockey program.
Recreation/House Hockey
After completion of a Learn to Play Hockey session, players can register for the recreation level program that is age and skill appropriate for the participant. Most new hockey players will proceed to a recreation level division for ages 5 to 14 years. The recreation program opens registration in late summer. This level of youth hockey is primarily instructional with minimal game play.
Travel Hockey Teams
Travel hockey teams are formed in the Spring for the following Fall/Winter season. Tryouts timeframes are determined by the Utah Amateur Hockey Association. Tryouts involve registration, a fee and one to four on-ice sessions. An assessment of player skill is conducted by the coaching staff and evaluators, during tryouts. Selected players are offered a spot on a Travel team. The Parent/Guardian completes a Player/Parent Agreement and submits payment to the Ogden Jr Mustangs to secure the player's spot on the team. Travel teams cost substantially more in tuition and have a greater time and travel commitment than participation in the recreation/house program.
USA Hockey Tier II Teams
Those wanting an even more challenging and competitive hockey experience and who are ready for the greater demands and expense of Tier Hockey, are invited to tryout for the Ogden Jr Mustangs 14U, 16U or 18U Tier II Teams.
Lady Jr Mustangs
The Ogden Jr Mustangs field a girls youth teams in the age divisions of 10U through 14U. These participants may also register and participate on a coed recreation/house division program in the same season. Due to limited ice availability, dual rostered players should be aware that scheduling conflicts may arise and affect training and practice time. Coaches are not able to accommodate every request regarding missed team events. Talk with coaching staff in advance of accepting spots on multiple hockey teams.
