Jr Mustangs Youth Hockey Tryouts

Each spring, the Utah Amateur Hockey Association authorizes local programs to host Tryouts for Travel and Tier Teams.  The Ogden Jr Mustangs will be be hosting Tryouts for the following 2025-26 teams.  To be eligible to participate in tryouts a player's financial account must up to date. Those with unpaid balances on account will not be eligible to participate.

Tier II Teams

Tier Teams are highly competitive teams with experienced players.  Tryouts are held in the spring for the following Fall/Winter season. The Ogden Jr Mustangs will field Tier II teams in the 14 and under, 16 and under and the 18 and under divisions. Tier II teams play a USA Hockey sanctioned tournament schedule. The Ogden Jr Mustangs Tier II teams travel out of state monthly and sometimes more than once a month.  The Tier II practice and travel schedule is demanding.  Utah Tier II teams may play against Tier I (AAA) teams only if the certain conditions are met according to the Utah Amateur Hockey Association policies. Tier II teams are nationally bound teams meaning that they will compete for the Tier II title in their age division with the winner representing Utah in the USA Hockey National Championships tournament, in their age division. Competition is high, the time and financial demand is significant for the Tier II player and family.  Ogden Jr Mustangs Tier teams have participated in the NAPHL, RMHF and the NWAHL.

Travel Division Teams

Travel B
Travel B teams are designed for players and parents that are interested in playing at a level that is higher than the House/Rec division of play but who lack experience. Players and Parents at Travel B and are looking for an emphasis on developmental hockey.  This division participates in the Utah Amateur Hockey League (UAHL). Travel B teams play against the other Travel B teams in Utah. Travel B players are not eligible to play on other youth travel and tier teams.  Out of state players are not allowed on Travel B teams. Travel B teams may travel out of state a maximum of 3 times, during the season to participate in Travel B tournaments. Travel B teams may participate in unlimited in-state tournaments and local games.  Travel B teams will participate in the UAHL PreSeason and end of season tournaments. The Ogden Jr Mustangs host Tryout Sessions for the Travel B teams.

 

Travel A Teams
Travel A teams may participate in the Utah Amateur Hockey League (UAHL) as well as 3 or more out of state tournaments per season.  The Ogden Jr Mustangs Travel A teams are designed for players and parents who are ready for a greater level of time and financial commitment.  Travel A level is for experienced players that seek to compete at the highest level possible within their age division. Travel A 10U and 12U teams may participate in any tournament of similar skill.  Travel A players may not play on other youth travel and tier hockey teams (no double rostering). Out of state players are not allowed. Billeted players are not allowed.  Ogden Jr Mustangs Travel A players should expect to travel out of state at least five to six times during the season. The Ogden Jr Mustangs host Tryout Sessions for the Travel A teams. Tryouts for 10U and 12U Travel A teams have concluded.  Tryouts for 14U Travel A team are scheduled for May 28 and 30 at the Weber County Ice Sheet.

House Recreation Teams

The Ogden Jr Mustangs House/Rec division provides an opportunities for new players and experienced players and their families who are not interested in the higher costs and time requirements of Travel and Tier hockey.  This division is primarily for the younger age groups (6U, 8U, 10U, 12U and 14U). Travel and House Rec players register to participate in their age division. There are no tryouts for House/Rec participation. House/Rec teams can add players after the start of the season until December. The USA Hockey American Development Model (ADM) is heavily emphasized with House/Rec players including practice to game ratios and skills. The House/Rec season may be shorter allowing players to participate in other youth sports. Many House/Rec teams play cross or half-ice games.
