Welcome to Youth Hockey
Youth hockey has grown tremendously in the past year. Registrations at Utah youth programs are expected to reach capacity.
The House Recreation divisions are open to the public. No tryouts. Practices will be on Saturdays at the Weber County Ice Sheet. Skills sessions will be on Mondays at the Weber County Ice Sheet (8U - 14U House teams) . The Lady Jr Mustangs will rotate between Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays. From time to time, a team may be offered the option to use a Sunday ice slot. All ice is purchased from the Weber County Ice Sheet. Weber County owns the Ice Sheet and sells ice to entities such as the Jr Mustangs. The Weber County Ice Sheet administers the Learn to Skate program, the Stick and Puck sessions and the Drop-In sessions.
The Ogden Jr Mustangs are a program of USA Hockey. Every participant including players, volunteers and coaches must register with USA Hockey annually. Visit https://membership.usahockey.com/ to register and view member benefits.
Parents of players who played last season received an email with the registration link on August 11. If you did not receive an email, reach out to admin@jrmustangshockey.com.
Those who participated in Learn to Play Hockey or Continue to Play Hockey received a registration on Friday August 15, in the evening.
Registration for the public opens August 18 and will be posted here on the Jr Mustangs website and in social media posts.
After registering your player, an invitation to join your player's 2025-256 TeamSnap roster will be sent to the email of the person who completed the registration. Please download or update TeamSnap App on your mobile phone or device to receive team information.
Neck Guards are Required. Players without a Neck Guard will NOT be permitted on the ice. This is a newer USA Hockey rule.
- The House Rec league begins practices October 6 for the 8U and older divisions.
- The season starts October 11 for the 6U division and November 29 for the 4U introductory program (5 sessions).
- All practices will be on Saturdays.
- Program and Team information will be available on the Teamsnap Team for your player's team. Be patient as team managers are recruited and make the time to populate your team's practice schedule. Refer to the TeamSnap schedule for your player throughout the season.
- Coaches will be announced on this website and via your TeamSnap chat.
Birth Certificate Upload
It is a USA Hockey requirement that all players who are NEW to USA Hockey submit their birth certificate to verify the players birth date. This is done once in a lifetime with USA Hockey. 4U Intro to Hockey Series
New to the Ogden Jr Mustangs program for 2025-26 is a 5-week introductory series for children aged 2021. This is a very basic introduction to youth hockey. It is for players who have completed the Learn to Skate program at any rink, have their own gear and are born in 2021. Sessions begin Saturday November 29 and run for 5 weeks. Each session is 1-hour long.
6U House Rec Team
The 6U Jr Mustangs is an entry level program. Season begins Saturday October 11 - Tuition includes weekly Saturday practices, holiday and end of season skate party. Game jersey and socks costs extra. Player provides their own protective gear. Those with last season's Champro brand reversible jersey and socks are okay to use this season. Refer to your team's TeamSnap schedule for event days and times. The 6U division is limited to those in birth years 2019 and 2020. This is not a competitive division therefore basic familiarity with the sport and fun is the focus of this division.
8U House Rec Team
Season begins Monday October 6 - Tuition includes weekly Saturday practices and Monday Skills sessions every other week, approximately four Home and four Away jamborees (cross ice games). Game jersey and socks costs extra. Player provides their own protective gear. Players are okay to use last season's Champro reversible jersey and socks. Refer to your team's TeamSnap schedule for event days and times. Possibility to play in two Utah in-state tournaments.
10U House Rec Team
Season begins Monday October 6 - Tuition includes weekly Saturday practices and Monday Skills sessions every other week. Up to 6 Home and 6 Away games. Game jersey and socks costs extra. Player provides their own protective gear. Players are okay to use last season's Champro reversible jersey and socks. This team will participate in the Utah Amateur Hockey League. Possibility to play in two Utah in-state tournaments.
12U House Rec Team
Season begins Monday October 6 - Tuition includes weekly Saturday practices and Monday Skills sessions, every other week. Up to 6 Home games and 6 Away games. Game jersey and socks costs extra. Player provides their own protective gear. Last season's Champro reversible jersey and sock is okay to use this season. This team will participate in the Utah Amateur Hockey League. Possibility to play in two Utah in-state tournaments.
14U House Rec Team
Season begins October 6 - Tuition includes weekly Saturday practices and Monday Skills sessions every other week, up to 4 Home and 4 Away games. Game jersey and socks costs extra. Player provides their own protective gear. Last season's Champro reversible jersey and sock are okay to use this season. This team will participate in the Utah Amateur Hockey League. 14U House Select Team (Tournament Team)
This team will form if there is enough interest among the 14U House Rec registered players. There will be an additional cost to this team to cover tournament entry fees.
14U Lady Jr Mustangs
Season begins October 6 - Tuition includes weekly practices. Practices will be on alternating Saturdays, Sundays. The Lady Jr Mustangs will also rotate through a Monday Skills sessions, every other week, 6 Home and 6 Away games. One to two local tournaments. Game jersey and socks costs extra. Player provides their own protective gear. Last season's Champro reversible jersey and socks are okay to use this season. This team will participate in the Utah Amateur Hockey League. This team may participate in the two UAHL local tournaments depending on the number of other Utah Girls 14U teams.

House/Recreation Program
- The House/Rec provides an opportunity for new players and experienced players and their families who are not interested in the higher costs and time requirements of Travel hockey. The House/Rec division is primarily for the age groups (6U, 8U, 10U, 12U and 14U). A 4U Introductory 5-week program has been added for the 2025-26 season. House/Rec teams can add players after the start of the season. The USA Hockey American Development Model (ADM) is heavily emphasized with House/Rec players including practice to competition ratios and skills instruction. House/Rec teams are not eligible for out of state play. The House/Rec season may be shorter allowing players to participate in other sports and activities. Out of state players are not allowed. Youth Learn to Play Hockey
- The Learn to Play Sessions are perfect for the youth player who has completed a Learn to Skate Session or has the equivalent skating experience and is able get around the rink unassisted as well as get up on their own from a fallen position. Use the link below to register. This LTP Hockey session is for those aged 4-9.
- After completing the Learn to Play Hockey sessions a player is eligible to register for the youth skills sessions and regular season. Additional Learn to Play Hockey session will be added to the schedule as ice and instructors are available.

What are the Costs to get started in Youth Hockey?
All youth hockey players registering with the Ogden Jr Mustangs must become a member of USA Hockey, the National Hockey Federation. The annual fee is $15 to $75 per player depending on the age. More info at https://membership.usahockey.com/
After paying the USA Hockey fee, what are the team fees?
4U Division (birth year 2021) - $85 - 5 weekly sessions - Introductory only. No games.
6U Division (Birth years 2019 & 2020) - Fee $300 - Weekly Saturday Morning ice time includes skill development and is intended to be instructional and fun. 6U is an introductory division with minimal cross ice scrimmages and emphasis on entry level fundamentals and fun.
8U Division (Birth years 2017 & 2018) - Fee $405 - Weekly Saturday morning practices and Skills sessions every other monday. Cross-Ice jamborees on Saturdays. Possibility to play in two Utah tournaments.
10U Division (Birth years 2016 & 2015) - Fee $650 - Weekly Saturday morning practices and games. Skills sessions every other Monday. This division may participate in two Utah tournaments.
12U Division (Birth years 2013 & 2014) - Fee $650 - Weekly Saturday morning practices and games. Skills sessions every other Monday. This division may participate in two Utah tournaments.
14U Division (Birth years 2011 & 2012) - Fee $750 - Weekly Saturday morning practices and games. Skills sessions every other Monday. This division may participate in two Utah tournaments.
14U Select/Tournament Team - This team will be comprised of 14U players already registered with the Ogden Jr Mustangs 14U House/Rec program. The team may participate in skill appropriate tournament play in addition to two UAHL local tournaments. The cost for this team will be dependent on the number of tournaments this team chooses to play.
Lady Jr Mustangs (Birth years 2011 thru 2016) - Fee $750 - The LJM team will have weekly, rotating, Saturday and Sunday morning practices and games. Additionally this team will have skills sessions every other Monday. This division may participate in two Utah tournaments depending on the number of other Girls team in the same skill and age division.
What about jerseys and gear?
Jr Mustangs game jerseys and socks are reversible and can be used for practices and games. House/Rec players will purchase one player kit for approximately $100 - the kit includes one reversible jersey and one pair of reversible socks. The jersey can be customized with the player's last name. Parents and fans can purchase a customized jersey for approximately $75 each. The Jr Mustangs Gear Manager, John Meade will post the September and October gear fittings on your team's TeamSnap calendar.
Game Jerseys and Socks are billed to the registering parent/guardian and is not included in the Tuition fee. Custom jerseys must be ordered by mid October.
Required protective gear includes a helmet, neck guard, mouthguard, shoulder pads, elbow pads, protective hockey pants, shin guards, skates and a stick. Local hockey stores have knowledgeable staff to assist. The local HockeyStopz shop in Ogden has used quality gear at greatly reduced prices. Play It Again Sports is an option for new and used gear. How do I know what Age Division is the correct on for my player?
Use the 2025-26 Season USA Hockey Age Classification chart located at below to determine which age division is correct for your child. It is very important to enter the correct birth year for your child when registering.
What else do I need to know?
If this is the first year your player is participating on a USA Hockey affiliated team, they must submit a birth certificate to the State Registrar. Your Team Manager or Jr Mustangs representative will provide a secure link for submitting the birth certificate. You will only have to do this once per participant in their lifetime with the USA Hockey program.
Teams are formed by the division director and players are assigned. For the 2025-26 season, parents will receive an invitation to join their player's team. Downloading the TeamSnap App to your mobile device will allow you access to the team calendar, team email and team chat features.

If this is the first season your child is playing with a USA Hockey affiliated program such as the Ogden Jr Mustangs, your child's birth year must be verified by the Utah State Hockey Registrar.
